Part of the role of the social worker in the early stage of working with persons with dementia and their caregivers is to provide support as they go through the process of accepting the diagnosis and understanding its implications. Social workers provide information to help persons with dementia and their caregivers gradually understand the impacts of the diagnosis on functional abilities.
