The provision of child welfare services has long been guided by various "best practice" standards, but ultimately the quality of practice must be judged by the outcomes achieved for children and families. A variety of outcomes are relevant for child protective services intervention. They can be loosely grouped into four categories: child safety, child permanence, child well-being, and family functioning.
