Pearson correlation coefficients

What is the range of Pearson correlation coefficients? And what do the sign “- “ and “+” mean respectively?

Coefficient values can range from +1 to -1, where +1 indicates a perfect positive relationship, -1 indicates a perfect negative relationship, and a 0 indicates no relationship exists.

It shows that there is no relationship between the two variables. In other words, knowing the value of one variable cannot provide any assistance In determining the value of another variable.

The size of the absolute value, in which the sign is ignored, shows the strength of the relationship. For instance, +1 or –1 (also known as a perfect correlation) shows that knowing the value of one variable can determine exactly the value of another variable.

Pearson’s correlation coefficients (r) are from –1 to +1. The sign “-“ in the front indicates a negative correlation (i.e. When one variable increases, the other decreases) whereas the sign “+” indicates a positive correlation (i.e. when one variable increases, the other also increases).
